JHS senior Othellis Roper selected to report to West Point

(From Joplin High School)

After years of dedicated preparation, Othellis Lee Roper III has been selected to report to the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point on July 3 in order to join USMA class of 2021.

While at Joplin High School, Othellis achieved excellence both in his academic work as well as his extracurricular achievements; serving as the Cadet Commander of the JROTC Eagle Battalion, and as an active member of the band, swim and track teams.

After a rigorous selection process, including a Congressional nomination from Billy Long, Othellis gained an appointment to West Point.

Othellis now looks forward to four years at one of the nation's most rigorous institutions so that he may fulfill his lifelong ambition to serve our country as a US Army officer.

Media, teachers, family, and friends are invited to a ceremonial signing ceremony on Wednesday, May 3rd at 4:00 p.m. in the Joplin High School Hospitality Room (adjacent to the Main Gym).
