Semi, SUV collide near Carthage, two injured, Galena woman airlifted to Mercy Springfield

UPDATE with injury information)

Two people were injured, with one airlifted to Mercy Springfield following a two-vehicle collision 6:02 p.m. today on I-49, two miles south of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Amy M. Tracy, 39, Galena, Kansas, lost control, ran off the left side of the roadway, crossed the median, overturned and was struck by a 2007 International Conventional driven by Douglas W. Hale, 47, Marysville, Kansas, in the southbound lanes.

Tracy was taken by Life Line Air Ambulance to Mercy Springfield with serious injuries. A passenger in the Tracy vehicle, James C. Dowell, 38, Galena, was treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.

No word on the extent of injuries yet, but reader Eddie Hahnen took this photo and video of the response to a collision between a semi and an SUV close to the Highway Patrol station near Carthage.

Two Carthage ambulances and one from Joplin responded and in the video you can see the arrival of a Mercy Hospital helicoper to airlift at least one person.
