On May 19th 2017 the Barton County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a domestic disturbance at 313 Southwest 10th Lane in Barton County.
Whenever the deputies arrived on scene they first spoke with a subject which was identified as a Krista Suggs who advised that she was wanting to leave from the residence, however her boyfriend did not want her to leave.
On May 21st 2017 an inmate who was incarcerated at the Barton County Sheriff’s Office had property brought in for him from his girlfriend. During a search of that property before giving it to the inmate a controlled substance was located concealed within that property. The individual who had brought the property to the inmate had already left from the Sheriff’s Office. At this time investigative reports have been wrote up and will be sent to the Barton County Prosecuting Attorney for consideration of filing a formal criminal charges.
Pittsburg man arrested
On May 20th 2017 Collin P. Gepford, age 37, of Pittsburg Kansas was arrested in another jurisdiction and transported back to the Barton County Jail. Once at the Jail a Deputy served him his arrest warrant for failure to appear. The original charge on the warrant was for the charge of resisting arrest. The charge stems from a vehicle pursuit that took place on 12-03-2016 where Chief Deputy Toby Luce pursued Gepford and assisted in taking Gepford into custody after he fled from Law enforcement in two different jurisdictions
Domestic disturbance investigated
On May the 19th 2017 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a domestic violence disturbance which occurred at 378 Northwest 176th Lane. When the deputies arrived at the home one of the parties had already left the home. In speaking with the female party still at the residence it was advised that a disagreement had taken place and that the argument became physical. The deputies were advised that both the male and female parties shoved and struck at each other.At this time and informational report was taken to document that there was an altercation or incident between the two parties. The parties did not want to cooperate with any kind of investigation.

The deputies then spoke to the boyfriend a man who was identified as a Stephen Rose. He stated that they had been arguing over several different things and that they had been consuming a lot of alcoholic beverage during the evening and he did not want her driving away from the residence due to her being impaired. He had advised that in the past she had left from the home impaired.
The deputies then went back inside the home to speak with the female subject and to try to figure out a way of peacefully separating the parties for the evening. A second highly intoxicated female subject at the home became very belligerent and interfered with the deputies while they dealt with the other two subjects.

During the investigation the officers realized there was no other option other than placing the subjects on 12-hour holds due to the level of impairment.
The deputies first placed Suggs into handcuffs and began to take her out to the patrol vehicle to be transported back to the Sheriff’s Office when the all of a sudden the second highly intoxicated female later identified as Amanda Stevens was placed into handcuffs to be transported back to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office also to be placed on a 12-hour hold and for the criminal charge of interfering during an investigation.
During the investigation the deputies conducted a routine check for warrants on all three and found that Steven Rose had a active warrant for his arrest out of Jasper County so Rose was arrested on that warrant. He was transported back to the Barton County Jail also.
Burglary investigated
On May 21st 2017, Sheriff Mitchell Shaw took a report of a past tense burglary at 151 Southeast 20th Lane in Barton County. The actual resident of that address is out of state at this time and family members was reporting that items from inside the home have came up missing. The investigation is ongoing into the theft of property from the residence.
