Iowa sex offender crashes into Diamond Post Office following high speed chase

An Iowa sex offender was captured this morning following a high-speed chase that ended when he crashed into the Diamond Post Office building.

According to reports from the Highway Patrol and the Diamond Area Fire Prevention District, a 2004 Oldsmobile driven by Mason D. Vang, 21, Mason City, Iowa, traveled off Market Street in Diamond while being pursued by a Newton County Sheriff's deputy.

Structural damage was done to the Diamond Post Office, the adjacent Community Bank and Trust building, and the roadway. A fire hydrant was snapped off causing damage to the water main, according to the Fire Protection District's Facebook page.

Vang was treated for moderate injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

According to the Iowa Sex Offender registry, Vang was convicted two years ago of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse.

The Missouri Highway Patrol, Newton County Sheriff's Office, Newton County Ambulance, Diamond Police Department, and Diamond Area Fire Protection responded to the accident.
