We receive many calls regarding fireworks this time of year.
I wanted to post the city ordinance, so maybe we can head some of this off this year. If you are planning on discharging fireworks, here is what you need to do to keep from receiving a citation from an officer.
If you have a problem with neighbors shooting fireworks off, as long as they follow the ordinance, there is nothing we can do about it.

A. Discharge Of Fireworks. Except as provided in Subsection (D) of this Section, no person shall, within the limits of the City, shoot, set off, explode or discharge any blank pistol, blank cartridge, torpedo, torpedo cane, firecracker or any substance containing chlorate of potash and sulphur or device for exploding or discharging such substances or for other fireworks. Provided however, that from the first (1st) day of July until the fifth (5th) day of July, both days inclusive, between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 12:00 A.M. (i.e., Midnight), it shall not be unlawful to discharge firecrackers containing no explosives more powerful than black gun powder and not exceeding five (5) inches in length and three-fourths (¾) of an inch in diameter and such other fireworks as are used for producing a brilliant display only.
B. Sale Of Fireworks. No person shall sell, offer for sale or give away within the City any blank pistol, blank cartridge, torpedo, torpedo cane, firecracker or any substance containing chlorate of potash and sulphur or device for exploding or discharging such substance or any other fireworks, except from the twenty-fifth (25th) day of June until the fifth (5th) day of July, both days inclusive, during which period of time it shall be lawful to sell, offer for sale or give away the following described fireworks only: Firecrackers containing no explosive more powerful than black gun powder and not exceeding five (5) inches in length and three-fourths (¾) of an inch in diameter and such other fireworks as are used for producing a brilliant display only.
C. Except as provided in Subsection (D) of this Section, it shall be unlawful for any person to sell or shoot bottle rockets in the City limits of the City of Carl Junction and any person found guilty in violation of this Section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and be punished in accordance with the City Code of the City of Carl Junction.
D. The articles described in Subsections (A), (B) and (C) of this Section may be discharged as a part of a public display at such times and under such circumstances as the Board of Aldermen may specify, provided that the person desiring to put on such public display shall first receive written approval by the Board of Aldermen for such public display. Any person desiring to put on such public display shall submit an application to the Board of Aldermen specifying the nature thereof and the date, time and the place of the proposed public display. Board approval shall be subject to such rules and regulations for public safety as it may require. Such approval shall also be subject to and contingent upon the applicant obtaining written permission from the Carl Junction Fire Protection District for such public display.
