Barton County Sheriff's Office Report

Chainsaw stolen from northwest Barton County

On May 17th 2017 a male subject came to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office to report that he had a chainsaw stolen from his front porch. The victim advised that he had only owned the chainsaw for a few short months and that he’d only got to use it a few times. The victim had purchased the chainsaw from Orscheln's. The victim in the case had the serial number for the chainsaw and it has been entered into the Nationwide system as a stolen item.

Man arrested for trespassing


On May 16th 2017 deputies were dispatched to the abandoned white house that is located north of the Super 8 Hotel on the west side of the road on Southeast 1st Lane. The reporting party on the call advise that there was a car at that residence with people going in and out of that home. When the deputies arrived they made contact with a male who was later identified as Joshua Wilson. Wilson advised that he was driving to Nevada Missouri and pulled over for just a moment to check to see exactly where he was at. During the investigation it was learned that Wilson had a suspended driver’s license so he was arrested for the criminal charge of driving while suspended and he was transported back to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office. The owner of the property came to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office and also advised that he wanted to file criminal charges against the individual for being on his property.

Lamar woman arrested on felony warrant


On May 15th 2017 Deputy Justin Ehrsam with the Barton County Sheriff’s Office went to a home located at 304 East 7thStreet in Lamar Missouri trying to locate a subject who had an active felony warrant for their arrest. Deputy Ehrsam located the subject a Melissa Layman, age 36, of Lamar (top photo) at that address. Layman was placed under arrest for her warrant. The warrant was for violation of her probation or for her failing to abide by the conditions of her probation. She was transported back to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office and she was processed into the jail.

Unresponsive Iantha woman taken to Barton County Memorial Hospital


On May 15th the Barton County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to a woman who had allegedly overdosed on medication. The Barton County Sheriff along with the Barton County ambulance responded to an address in the Iantha area of Barton County. Whenever First Responders arrived at the home the 44 year of age female subject was found outside of the home and unresponsive. She was transported to the Barton County Memorial Hospital for further medical treatment.

Man with shotgun turns out to be unwelcome Guest with axe handle


On May 14 2017 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office was called to the area of 871 Northwest 162nd Lane, to a report of a man reported to be in a gray Chevrolet Tahoe who was in possession of a shotgun and was threatening the home owner. The reporting party advised that the individual in the vehicle was a Brian Guest, age 44 of Arcadia. The complaintant was a Lowell C. Younge, age 53, of Liberal. Young advised that he had confronted Guest to find out what the problem was and that Guests stayed in his vehicle. The Deputy was advised that there was words exchanged between the two. Young advised that he went back to his house and that’s when Guest left in the vehicle and it was reported that he got dangerously close to striking him with his vehicle. When the deputies was able to make contact with Mr. Guest he stated that he was picking asparagus whenever he was confronted by Lowell and a Laura Young. He advised that Laura had a beer in one hand and a large stick in the other. Guest told the deputies that he left after that but would not go into any a lot of details about what was said or what exactly happened. Deputies from me Barton County Sheriff’s Office, Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, and Missouri State Highway Patrol Troopers responded to the address. At the conclusion of the investigation it was learned that there was a disagreement between two parties. The parties were not cooperative in providing the reason why the parties did not get along . There was no shotgun in the vehicle and what the reporting party saw was actually an axe handle. At the conclusion of the investigation all parties were told to stay away from each other.

Lamar man unsuccessfully tries to hide controlled substance

On May 12th 2017 approximately 2 a.m. a deputy with the Barton County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at 12th and Cherry. The reason for the traffic stop was due to the driver failing to stop at a stop sign and Crossing the center line while driving 12th Street. During a routine check of the drivers driving status it was found that his driving status was suspended out of the state of Missouri. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jacob fererico Ruiz-Dominguez,age 22, of Lamar. Jacob was asked to exit his vehicle when Jacob was being placed into handcuffs Jacob dropped a piece of plastic he was trying to conceal. The deputy asked what it was that he had dropped he then reached down with his unhand cuffed hand and grabbed the piece of plastic and threw it back in the open window of the vehicle. After the deputy spoke with Jacob some more it was learnt that the individual was in possession of a controlled substance which he referred to as wax. A substance which is some form of an oil based THC which is smoked in a mechanical smoking device. Jacob was transported to the Barton County Jail where he was processed into the sheriff’s office and issued summons for the criminal offenses.

Eyewitness spots Lamar woman sneaking marijuana, cigarettes to prisoner through jail window


On May 11th 2017 a deputy with the Barton County Sheriff’s Office was advised by the Barton County dispatcher that a witness had seen a string being lowered from a window up in the Jail area of the Sheriff’s Office to a woman outside of the Sheriffs office. The witness gave a very descriptive description of the woman saying that she tied something to the string and then left from the sheriff’s office in a vehicle. A short time later a search was conducted of the upstairs in the Cell Block area of the jail due to a strong odor of burnt tobacco and marijuana coming from the jail. Lamar city officer went and assisted in the search and also located the female subject. She was transported back to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office where she was interviewed and denied any wrong doing at the jail. The female was identified as Olivia Legrand age 24 of Lamar (bottom photo). Due to the witness statements and a small amount of tobacco and marijuana that was found in the upstairs she was arrested and booked into the Barton County Sheriff’s Office for smuggling in Contraband into the jail.
