(From the Joplin Police Department)
On 2-27-2018 at 8:07pm the Joplin Police Department responded to 1311 North Goetz Blvd for a vehicle crash involving a house.
Officers arrived and discovered that Dakota Parkhurst was Northbound on Goetz, driving a stolen 2010 Ford E-250 Van, displaying trailer license plate on the rear. He failed to negotiate a curve at Goetz and Willow Ln, left the west side of the roadway, then went back across the roadway and left the roadway on the east side. The stolen van then rolled and hit two parked pickup trucks in the driveway of 1311 North Goetz, before spinning around and impacting the south wall of that residence. The van caused extensive structural damage to the residence, including a partially collapsed wall to the garage.
Neighbors who heard the crash approached the van and attempted to assist the driver out of the van. The driver hit the driver’s window until it broke, crawled out of the driver’s window and ran on foot. The neighbors chased Parkhurst on foot approximately three yards to the north and held him down until responding officers took him into custody.
There were no injuries in this incident, only major property damage. The van was determined to have been reported stolen from Aurora, Missouri. The suspect, Dakota Parkhurst, 23, Joplin, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, Careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, expired Missouri Driver’s License, tampering with a stolen vehicle and possession of a controlled substance-meth. Charges have been submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration.
