JPD officers arrest man in 7th Street Wal-Mart parking lot on felony drug charges, resisting arrest

(From the Joplin Police Department)

Incident Spotlight

Friday night, officers headed to a house to look for a wanted male.

As they arrived, they saw a car leaving the house and it failed to dim its bright lights as it passed officers. Officers caught up to the car as it pulled into W. 7th St. Walmart. They attempted a car stop but the driver failed to stop.

Instead, he threw two bags of meth out of the vehicle window and continued driving through Walmart parking lot at approximately 10 mph. He eventually came to a stop on the west side of Walmart parking lot.

The driver refused to exit the vehicle or follow commands.

Eventually, the passenger side window was broken out by officers, allowing the doors to be unlocked, and the driver was pulled from vehicle. He actively resisted arrest, fighting with officers. He was arrested on 12 active warrants, felony drug charges, resisting arrest, driving while suspended and failure to yield to emergency vehicle. The whole incident occurred during the steady cold rain.
