Sarcoxie Police arrest woman on theft, drug charges following theft at Dollar General Store

During the afternoon of Sunday, February 10th, 2019, Sarcoxie Police were dispatched to the Dollar General Store in reference to a theft that had just occurred.

The female suspect was reported to have fled the store running east towards Casey's and dropping merchandise as she ran. 

While responding, a Jasper County Sheriff's Deputy who was in the area located the suspect. Upon arrival on scene, Sarcoxie Police Officers Crihfield and Scheppert conducted the investigation and verified the suspect was the person located near the scene and identified as Lainey Hawkins from Niangua, MO. 







Hawkins confessed to the theft. Close to $80 worth of Dollar General's merchandise was recovered. 

With the stolen and recovered merchandise, drug paraphernalia was also found, to which the Hawkins admitted to using with methamphetamine. 

Hawkins was arrested by a Sarcoxie Police Officer on charges of Misdemeanor Stealing and Felony Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and transported to the Jasper County Jail for holding pending filing of formal charges by the Jasper County Prosecutor's Office.

Even with freely given confession, Hawkins is presumed innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.

The Sarcoxie Police Department appreciates the assistance by the Jasper County Sheriff's Office Deputy.
