Newton County Sheriff's Office warns of Social Security scams

(From the Newton County Sheriff's Office)

We have received an influx of callers reporting they were notified their social security number has been “suspended for suspicion of illegal activity”.

If you were called by a person claiming this, guess what? Yep, it’s a scam.

They may make claims that if you don’t provide information, such as your social security number or other private info, a warrant will be issued. Guess what? They can’t issue warrants!

We appreciate folks letting us know they were called, however we are well aware this is going around. Thank you too all that called in today.

Pass this on, some people may not be aware it’s happening and we hate when people are fooled by these tricksters.
