Spiva exhibition features works using light, sound and code

(From Southern News Service)

“Lapse,” a solo exhibition by artist and designer Chad Eby, is set to open Thursday, March 18, and run through April 21 in the Spiva Art Gallery at Missouri Southern State University.

A multidisciplinary artist based in Lexington, Ky., Eby works with light, sound and code to engage with the grain of digital technologies.

His artwork is by turns stark and whimsical, and explores humanity’s fraught relationship with made objects using sound, light and digital fabrication techniques.

Since 2019, he has been a faculty member at the University of Kentucky’s School of Visual Arts Studies. He previously served at the Herron School of Art and Design at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, and at Florida State University in Tallahassee.

Eby was recognized with the Frank C. Springer Family Faculty Innovation Award in 2017.

His work has been shown at the Swedish National Museum of Science and Technology; Generative Art XXII in Rome, Italy; New Media Fest in Valencia Spain; the Indianapolis Museum of Art; and at various venues across the United States. He has attended competitive residencies at the Atlantic Center for the Arts and was selected for the inaugural Space Art Summer School at the Russian Museum of Cosmonautics.

Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Currently, the gallery requires social distancing to be maintained at all times, and face coverings are required for all students, faculty, staff and visitors to campus.
