(From the Joplin Police Department)On August 8th, 2021 at approximately 10:30 pm officers with the Joplin Police Department responded to the Super 7 Motel at 3031 S. Rangeline Road for a report of an armed robbery of a guest at this location.
As officers arrived on scene, they observed the suspect near the hotel, but he fled on foot and was not located at that time. The victim advised he was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot and stated his watch was stolen. The victim did not suffer any injuries during the robbery.
At 01:31 am the Joplin Police Department received a report of suspicious activity in the area of 34th and Texas Avenue. Officers responded and detained an adult male, who was later identified as the suspect in the armed robbery at the Super 7 Motel. The suspect was identified as Deson L. Davis, age 26 of Springfield, Missouri.
Deson has several active warrants for his arrest, including a parole violation warrant for Robbery. Deson also had two handguns in his possession, one of which was stolen out of Shawnee, Kansas.
The charges of Robbery 1st Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Armed Criminal Action (2 counts) were filed by the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with a bond of $50,000. The charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Stealing were filed by the Newton County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with a bond of $50,000. Davis is currently in custody in the Jasper County Jail.
