Partial parking garage closing at 6th and Virginia scheduled

The parking garage at 6th Street and Virginia Avenue will be partially closed beginning the morning of Friday, September 10 and will remain partially closed through Sunday, September 12. The area that will be closed is the northern concrete area of the garage. The asphalt areas to the south side will remain open during this time. 

Also, 6th Street between Main Street and Virginia Avenue will be closed during part of this time frame. All businesses in the area will be operating as normal.

The closure is occurring to allow Allgeier, Martin and Associates and their subconsultants to perform various analyses on the structure. 

Data will be collected to evaluate the structure of the garage and to help form plans on how to rehabilitate the structure so it may continue to serve the area for many more years. The Joplin Fire Department has wet down the structure in advance to allow more thorough results from the ground penetrating radar; one of the methods that the consultants will use to analyze the garage.
