(From Southern News Service)Seventeen graduates of the nursing program at Missouri Southern State University were honored during a formal pinning ceremony on Dec. 10.
Dr. Lisa Beals, chair of the Nursing Department, said the Fall 2021 class overcame a number of hurdles on their way to receiving their bachelor of science in nursing.
“From the many exams, papers and clinical hours to working through the challenges of the pandemic – including remote learning and split classrooms – I am grateful to them and for their grit and determination,” said Beals. “This class has more than demonstrated the effort it takes to enter the workforce.”
The nursing pin has a long history, she said, dating back to the Crusades, when those who cared for the injured wore large crosses on the battlefield. Pinning ceremonies also honor the legacy of Florence Nightingale for her impact on the modern nursing field.
