Joe Kowis retires from Joplin Police Department

Corporal Joe Kowis officially retired Friday from the Joplin Police Department after 20 years of service to the citizens of Joplin. 

Cpl. Kowis graduated from the Missouri Southern State University Law Enforcement Academy back in 1998 and worked for the Carl Junction Police Department from 1999 to 2001 before being hired by JPD on December 17th, 2001. 

During his time at JPD, Cpl. Kowis has worked as a Police Officer, Bike Officer, Warrant Officer, Detective, SWAT operator, SWAT sniper, Traffic Officer, a RAPID Team member, Firearms Instructor, Field Training Officer, Explorer Program Advisor, Crash Reconstructionist, and Drone Pilot. 








He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in August of 2010 and is retiring as a supervisor in the Traffic Unit in the Uniformed Operations Bureau.
 
Please join us in congratulating Corporal Kowis on an outstanding career! While he officially enters retirement after today, Corporal Kowis will be rejoining the Joplin Police Department in 2022 as one of our department Training Officers and will assist in instructing and teaching newly hired officers. We look forward to having him back!
