Miami elementary school goes on lockdown as police pursue man wanted on Newton County warrant

(From the Miami Police Department)

At approximately 1:30 pm today Officer McGregor was patrolling on N. Main St and observed a suspect he knew to have run from the police earlier in the day.

McGregor turned around on Main and pulled into the Full Tilt parking lot to make contact again with the suspect.

McGregor's vehicle hit gravel and slid off the pavement and the muddy grass allowed the vehicle to slide into the wall at 1st National Bank. McGregor exited his vehicle and gave chase on foot to the suspect who ran west bound, he then doubled back East bound and was eventually arrested in the field East of the park in the 1900 block of D ST NE.

The suspect was identified as Levi Elsenpeter. Elsenpeter had a warrant from Newton County for Burg I, Domestic Assault 1st degree, and armed criminal actions, with a $100,000 cash only bond.

Because of the close vicinity of the foot chase to Washington elementary it temporarily was placed on lock down for the safety of children.
