The staff of George Washington Carver National Monument invites you to Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 3rd from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. This indoor event is free of charge.
Stop by to meet park staff and volunteers, make holiday ornaments and crafts, listen to live music, enjoy refreshments, see the temporary exhibit of George Washington Carver’s Christmas cards, and catch a special film.
Craft stations will be set up inside the visitor center where you may make dreidels, paper fan ornaments, rag dolls, and more! A special exhibit of George Washington Carver’s artistic cards and letters he sent to friends during the holidays will be on display and park rangers will be available to answer questions about the exhibit.
Enjoy cookies, cocoa, and cider while listening to live music presented by the group, Robin’s Hood. Their swing/jazz renditions of holiday classics and original compositions are sure to be the highlight of the event!
In the park theater, a special showing of the film, Nature: Christmas in Yellowstone will play at 1:00 pm. This 52-minute film includes amazing backcountry scenes and a breathtaking look at wintertime, deep within America’s first national park. Holiday Open House is made possible by the Carver Birthplace Association, by the talents of park volunteers, and is co-sponsored by the Joplin Convention & Visitors Bureau.
