(From the Joplin Police Department)With the winter holiday season fast approaching, the Joplin Police Department hopes to keep package thefts (porch pirates) incidents to a minimum this year. Here are some tips to help from becoming a victim yourself:
-Track your packages and monitor delivery
-Attempt to be available for deliveries or schedule in person pickup
-Ship to your workplace, trusted neighbor, or family member (if possible)
-Request signature upon delivery
-Provide special delivery instructions for packages to be left in a safe location (if possible)
Several delivery services offer great apps for tracking and delivery options. Surveillance systems of package drop off areas also assist greatly in theft investigation cases. As always, if you see suspicious or criminal activity, please report it to the Joplin Police Department by calling 417-623-3131 or 911 if during an emergency.
