Police searching for Joplin man alleged to have punched, choked woman

On Tuesday, November 15th, at approximately 7:41 am, the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a report of a domestic assault happening in the 1800 block of west 21st Street. 

Officers responded and were able to contact the reported victim, who was initially uncooperative with police. 

At approximately 4:08 pm, officers were called back out to the same location for another report of a domestic disturbance. 








During their investigation on scene, officers were able to determine the suspect had assaulted the victim by punching her in the head multiple times and choked her to the point she could not breathe.

Information received during the investigation led officers to believe the suspect, Christopher L. Smith, age 32 of Joplin, was inside the residence. 

Officers attempted numerous times to contact the suspect, however there was no response. The Joplin Police Department SWAT Team was activated and responded to the scene to assist officers. SWAT Team members were able to confirm that Smith was not at the residence and has not been located as of yet. 

Smith has an active felony warrant for Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree with a $15,000 surety bond plus $5,000 cash.
