Carthage Police Department warns of scam

We have received reports that citizens have received calls from scammers posing as Carthage Officers attempting to get money from them. We have also had reports that people are receiving calls from people pretending to be their loved ones saying that they need bail money.

Carthage Officers will never call you and attempt to obtain money over the phone. No legitimate business or agency will take payment via gift cards. If they ask for money to be sent through gift cards, it is always a scam.

If you receive a call from someone saying they need bail money, please use caution, and ask questions to verify their identity. You can also call or text the person independently to verify it is really them.
