Five people were injured in a two-vehicle accident 11:15 a.m. Monday on MO 171 three miles north of Asbury.
According to the Highway Patrol report, David M. Stevens, 41, Pittsburg, Kansas, driving a 2008 Honda Accord, suffered a medical emergency, crossed the center line and struck a 2023 Toyota Camry driven by Kevin L. Plank, 63, Valley Center, Kansas.
After the impact, the Stevens vehicle came to rest in the roadway, while the Plank vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and overturned.
Stevens was treated for serious injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
Plank was treated for serious injuries, a passenger in his vehicle, Deanna J. Plank, was treated for moderate injuries and two other passengers in the Plank vehicle, a 10-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl from Valley Center, were treated for minor injuries at Mercy Joplin.
