Four women detained in Joplin Police prostitution/sexual exploitation sting

(From the Joplin Police Department)

On August 16, 2024, into the early morning hours of August 17, 2024, the Joplin Police Department along with the Springfield Police Department, Southwest Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force, and federal partners conducted a victim focused sexual exploitation sting.

Throughout the operation four adult females were contacted by undercover law enforcement with the agreement to buy sexual favors. A location to meet was arranged, and the females were contacted, detained and interviewed by law enforcement.

Three females were cited and released for Engaging in Sexual Favors for Payment. One female was cited for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and arrested for outstanding city of Joplin warrants.

The RISE (Regional Intervention against Sexual Exploitation) Coalition and Life Choices were present during the entirety of the operation and assisted in victim services.

All four females received medical services, resources, and referrals for ongoing support from these community partners. The success of this operation would not have been possible without the collaboration of these partners and their willingness to help the victims of our community.

Community awareness is one of the best ways to combat crimes of sexual exploitation. If you suspect a person in our community being involved in these types of sexual exploitation, please contact the Joplin Police Department and/or make a report with the National Human Trafficking Hotline (1-888-373-7888).
