(From KGCS)When disaster strikes or someone goes missing, police and firefighters are not the only ones answering the call. The Civil Air Patrol is often the eye in the sky in search and rescue efforts and the organization is the focus of the next Newsmakers program.
Lt. Col. Jered Horn explains the mission of the Civil Air Patrol which is the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force.
Joplin’s wing of the Civil Air Patrol has fifty members who help with searches and with creating communication networks during disasters along with taking aerial photography. Viewers will also meet Cadet Major Faith Godsell who joined Civil Air Patrol as a teen and is getting assistance in working to earn her pilot’s license. Both share information about summer encampment and drills that prepare youth and teach leadership.
