(From the Jasper Police Department)On Friday, August 16th, 2024 at 3:00 am, Jasco 911 fielded calls of a shooting at 606 E. Maiden Ln., Jasper, Mo.
Jasper County Sheriff’s Office responded and found a male in the front yard of the residence suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. A female was located at the residence as well.
Jasper PD responded and assisted with the scene, eventually taking over the investigation. The female subject, Sommer Closser appeared severely intoxicated and erratic… Closser allegedly became angry and an argument with the male (her boyfriend) and brandished a firearm.
During a physical struggle between the male and Closser, the firearm was discharged by Closser, striking the male. Closser allegedly attempted to cover up the shooting by placing her hand over the male’s mouth and telling him to say it was an accidental shooting.
Closser was arrested for probable cause domestic assault 2nd degree and unlawful use of a weapon.
After being taken into custody, Closser became combative with deputies, refusing to cooperate and becoming violent. Closser attempted to escape custody by getting a wrist free from the handcuffs, and kicking the patrol car door, causing damage. Closser was charged for attempted escape from custody (felony) and property damage.
The male victim was transported to Mercy Joplin via ambulance and treated for his gunshot wound (non-life threatening).
Closser could also be facing charges for endangering the welfare of a child due to children being present. Children Center interviews with the children are scheduled for later today.
Closser is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Thank you to Jasper County Sheriff's Office for their response and assistance.
