(From KGCS) Making kids laugh in a school classroom morphed into a career of writing storybooks. It’s a dream come true for author and sometimes illustrator Isaiah Basye, better known as Izzy B. His path to publishing and becoming a self-described silly story specialist is the focus of the next Newsmakers program.
Dressed in a pirate costume, Izzy B talks about his latest book, Billy Tart’s Can of Farts and how he utilized a crowd funding campaign for publishing costs.
In full pirate accent, he reads an excerpt from his Missouri Show Me Readers Award nominated book, The Mighty McKraken, which will be read by students across the state for their judging. Illustrator and writer, Ben Askew, joins the conversation to discuss creating imagery for children’s books.
Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. beginning July 27 on KGCS-TV and will air at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 2 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS – Missouri Southern State University.
KGCS-TV programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Optimum Internet. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
