(From KGCS)

The Cardinals Caravan visit to Missouri Southern State University drew hundreds of fans to hear from up-and-coming players. Student reporters got a chance to talk to them separately and those one-on-one interviews are shared in the next Newsmakers program.

MSSU student sports announcer Nathan Reynolds talks to Cardinals Minor League Player of the Year J.J. Wetherholt. His fellow play-by-play partner, Logan Carnes, visits with Victor Scott II about college summer ball and being a rapper.

Braden Kirkland discusses making the big leagues with pitcher Kyle Leahy and Darren Zustiak discovers how José Fermin appreciates Cardinals fans. Catcher Leonardo Bernal visits with freshman Camden Steadman about his baseball catching idols and Gerardo Martinez talks with Cardinals alum Kerry Robinson about playing in his hometown of St. Louis. Fans react to the Caravan experience.

Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. beginning January 25 on KGCS-TV and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, January 31 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS – Missouri Southern State University.

KGCS-TV programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Optimum Internet. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University
