(From the City of Joplin)Starting Monday, January 12, East 15th Street will be closed between Highview Avenue and Mississippi Avenue for stormwater improvements. This closure will be in place through Wednesday, February 11 as the City’s contractor D & E Plumbing continues work on the stormwater improvements along Texas Avenue. Drivers will need to use alternative routes in this area.
Traffic will be detoured during this time, and signs will be in place to help re-direct traffic in the area. Message boards will be used to inform motorists as well.
This closure is for stormwater infrastructure improvements in the Texas Avenue area which is one of the nine stormwater projects being funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). All projects are currently under construction and have a deadline of August 31, 2026 for completion.
Projects such as these improve the movement of stormwater moving through the area and reduce flooding possibilities of roadways and properties after rain events. Installation of concrete inlets, stormwater boxes, and larger pipes help to ensure the efficient water flow and mitigate flooding in the area.
The City appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to improve our community’s infrastructure. For questions or more information, please contact the City of Joplin Public Works Department at 417-624-0820, ext. 1520.
