These conditions developed after school buses were already on their routes, leading to several road closures into Noel and delays for many students, teachers, and staff arriving at school.
Despite the challenging conditions, student safety remained our top priority.
There was one minor bus accident involving students during morning routes. We want to be very clear that this incident was not the fault of our bus driver. Due to the professionalism and quick response of our transportation team, no students were injured, and all students arrived at school safely.
We are extremely proud of our incredible bus drivers, who showed outstanding judgment, patience, and care while navigating a sudden and unexpected weather event that was completely outside of anyone’s control.
We also want to extend a sincere thank you to our School Resource Officers, who were out driving roadways to check on students and buses, as well as to local law enforcement for their assistance on the roads this morning. A special thank you to highway department crews who responded quickly to treat roadways once conditions became known.
We appreciate the patience and understanding of our families and community.
McDonald County Schools remains fully committed to making safety-based decisions and doing everything possible to protect our students and staff every day.
