A Lamar teen pedestrian was killed while trying to cross I-49, one mile north of Lamar, at 11:02 p.m. Saturday.
According to the Highway Report, Cody W. Scheetz, 17, was hit by a 2007 Freightliner driven by Reynaldo Diaz, 73, Winter Haven, Florida. Scheetz was pronounced dead at the scene by Barton County Coroner Tucker Joustra.
The fatality was the 43rd this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.

ReplyDeleteWhy would the official report say that this was someone crossing the highway? At eleven o'clock at night? I have a hard time believing that. Suicide, though tragic, must be spoken about and not swept back to be hidden behind the curtain of social mores.
ReplyDeleteSadly, it was most likely not an attempt to cross the highway. Depression is a tragic beast that has beaten on me. Thankfully, it didn'tsteal me away from this world. I can only imagine what he felt.
