A Springfield woman was killed in a one-vehicle accident 3:54 a.m. Thursday on Route U, at Missouri 43, inside Seneca.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2000 Buick Century driven by Sherry L. Sappington, 61, Springfield, failed to stop for a stop sign at a T intersection, ran off the east side of the roadway and struck a fence and a tree.
Deputy Coroner Jerry Deems pronounced Sappington dead at the scene.
The fatality was the 30th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
Sappington was a 1974 graduate of East Newton High School.
