Shakespeare Academy scheduled at Missouri Southern

The Missouri Shakespeare Festival will present the Bard’s classic tale of star-crossed lovers when it stages “Romeo & Juliet” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 23, through Saturday, June 25, and a 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 26, in the Bud Walton Theatre at Missouri Southern State University.

Directed by Matt Campbell, the cast includes Jonathan Woodruff, Taylor Shepard, Kelsey Bunner, Carlos Olmedo, Todd Manley, Frank Huber, James Keating, Ann Grace Lile, Jim Lile and Campbell himself.

“We began a crowdfunding-campaign earlier this year and staged a fundraiser in order to provide a stipend for our actors and actresses who will spend the month of June with us,” said Dr. Jim Lile, head of the Theater Department. “This marks the fourth year for the Missouri Shakespeare Festival and, as always, audiences can expect to see a twist in how this tale is presented.”

Shakespeare Academy

In addition to the production, the annual Shakespeare Academy for students in grades kindergarten through 12 will be offered June 20-24 at Missouri Southern.

During the day camp, participants will learn about the art of storytelling, stage combat, stage design and acting. It will conclude with a performance for family and friends. This year’s event is presented in partnership with Art Feeds.
