Festival to feature plays written, directed by MSSU students

Southern Theatre will present “What Happens at the Climax Stays at the Climax,” a festival of new drama in at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, through Saturday, April 29, in the Bud Walton Theatre at Missouri Southern State University.

In past years, Directing II students spent the first half of the semester writing 30-minute plays and the second half directing those plays. This year, each playwright will direct a colleague’s play. In this way, students will have the experience of seeing their written work envisioned by another director.

The set of plays performed on April 26 and 28 will be “The Comet” by Emily Tarter, “D-N-G” by Joshua Lee Pruss, “Shards” by Jamie Strong, and “What’s the Worth?” by Kristin Youts.

The plays performed on April 27 and 29 will be “The Sense of Living” by Inge Logtenberg, “Tight Ends” by Ethan Settle, and “In a Barn (Or What Can I Eat)” by Valerie Stockton.

Admission is free and seating is on a first come, first served basis. Tickets will be available at the door beginning at 6:30 p.m. All plays are rated “M” for mature audiences only. Explicit language and adult situations may be included.
