1939 Pirsch aerial fire truck to be on display at Third Thursday

(From the Joplin Fire Department)

The Joplin Fire Department and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 59 invites the public to view the 1939 Pirsch aerial firetruck that has been recently renovated by staff of the fire department. This historic vehicle will be on view starting at 5 p.m. in the Memorial Hall parking lot during the May 18 Third Thursday event.

This apparatus has a 100-foot aerial ladder on it, and comes from Pirsch and Sons, Incorporated, a Kenosha,Wisconsin–based manufacturer of fire apparatus.

“While the truck may not be 100 percent ready, the men and women have done a great job getting the truck refurbished,” said Fire Chief Jim Furgerson. “The outpouring from the public has been outstanding as well, and we are truly grateful for all the support and donations that have come in for this project.”

The vehicle will be on view through the close of the event on Thursday. For more information contact Chief Jim Furgerson at 417-623-0403.
