Four-way stop signs to be installed at Fir Road, Lone Elm intersection during 171 bridge construction

(From the Carl Junction Police Department)

In conferring with the Sheriff's Office, the Highway Patrol and the Jasper County Commissioners, we are going to start the first action regarding the bridge replacement on 171.

Everyone believes that traffic on Fir Road will be greatly increased while the bridge construction is ongoing,

Fir Road and Lone Elm is the highest accident location along Fir Road on the south side of our City, so after careful thought we have made the decision to install 4 way stop signs at that intersection.

This decision was made in the interest of safety, the vision at that intersection is somewhat restricted because of the geographical surroundings and the intersection itself is somewhat offset going north or south at the intersection.

The traffic flow will be slowed and should make coming out of the other inlets to Fir Road a little easier.

The signs will be installed as soon as the City and Joplin Special Road District get the signs coordinated. I will post the starting date as soon as I receive it.
