Community members and Joplin Fire Explorers joined Joplin firefighters and City officials as they pushed a new 100-foot aerial ladder truck into an empty fire bay at Fire Station #1, as part of an “Apparatus Housing Ceremony” held today.
The Pierce Truck, ordered in December 2015, was built to the Joplin Fire Department’s specifications and recently delivered to the department. Since arriving to the Joplin station, firefighters have been adding necessary gear and the emergency communications system, as well as holding training sessions with this new platform truck. Crews will perform acceptance testing to check all the equipment for proper operations, driving the truck, and using the pumping system prior to releasing it for service.
This new truck replaces a 2001 HME 75-foot aerial fire truck that has served the City for more than 15 years. The trade agreement allowed $45,000 deduction for the 2001 truck, bringing the actual cost to the City as $1,051,216 for the fleet’s newest addition. It will go into service immediately following the housing ceremony.
