Jasper Police stop of Kansas car nets drug arrest, numerous explanations for meth-related items in purse

(From the Jasper Police Department)

On Thursday, April 2nd, 2020 at 1256 hours, a Jasper officer initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Mercer and ‪4th St., Jasper, Missouri‬, on a silver Ford Ranger with a Kansas plates.

Contact was made with the driver, Jack Bache, and the passenger who stated she did not have any identification on her, but gave the name of Khira Freand.

Bache stated he had only known the passenger for 3-4 hours ago at a casino and wasn't sure if the name given was correct or not. While speaking to the passenger, she said Bache was a long time family friend (A clue maybe something is up?).

After seeing signs of possible narcotic use, a consent search of the vehicle and Freand's purse was conducted. The following was found:

*Spoon with residue and burn marks underneath. Commonly used for drawing narcotics into a syringe.

*Used syringe with residue.

*Syringe which had an amount of clear liquid substance in it. Substance field tested positive for methamphetamine.

After questioning, Freand said she got the spoon from a friend's dishwasher and that all of his spoons are like that. She had the spoon to eat with she said.

In reference to the syringes, she said she was a diabetic, and in fact just took a shot while at Pete's. She said the insulin container was in the trash at the store.

After being shown the field test kit and that the substance in the loaded syringe field tested positive for methamphetamine, she advised she was going to tell the truth now.

She changed her story and said she had recently kicked her boyfriend out and she found the items found in her purse and put them in there

Freand was taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as an active warrant out of Joplin PD.

Freand is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
