Cherokee County Sheriff's Office receives $150K Department of Justice grant

(From the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office)

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office has been awarded $149,973.00 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs.

"Federal grants can be very competitive and we submitted our application back in March, so I was pleased to recently receive a call from Senator Jerry Moran and learn our agency had been awarded this grant," stated Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.

The funds will be used towards maintaining compliance with the Sex Offender Registration Notification Act through technology, collaboration, enforcement operations and training.

"One of the components of this project will include our partnership with Offender Watch, who will be making technological upgrades which will not only enhance offender notification capabilities to citizens of Cherokee County, but other communities served by Offender Watch throughout Kansas and the country."

"In addition to the technological upgrades, this grant will also cover the costs associated with increased investigative training and offender compliance operations over the next three years," concluded Sheriff Groves.

Residents who currently wish to sign up to receive an alert if an offender moves into their neighborhood can register on the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office website at www.cherokeecountykssheriff.com.
