On 9/23/2020 at 7:48 p.m., Neosho police officers were dispatched to a vehicle/pedestrian traffic crash on Business 49 Highway, near the intersection of Waldo Hatler Memorial Drive.
When officers arrived, they found that 21-year-old Joel L. Shannon, Neosho, MO, had been struck by a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by Trae Renner, also of the Neosho area.
The investigation indicates Mr. Shannon was struck in the roadway.
Independent witnesses told officers Mr. Shannon stepped in front of the vehicle as it approached. Mr. Shannon was transported by Newton County Ambulance to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
