(From the Jasper County Sheriff's Office)After further investigation into the shooting at 1763 Malang Road, Joplin, there will not be charges filed at this time.
The deceased has been identified as Brian Smith, 50. He was a resident of that address. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.

On January 7th, 2022 at approximately noon, Jasper County Deputies received a call of a disturbance with an unknown altercation taking place at 1763 S. Malang Rd., Joplin Missouri.
When deputies arrived, they found a 50-year-old male deceased in the yard with an apparent gunshot wound. Detectives had detained a 75-year-old male for questioning and we are not looking for any other persons involved in this incident at this time and the public is not in danger.
The investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time. Updates will be given when it is appropriate to do so.
