Continuing their mission to grow appreciation and participation in the fine arts Neosho Arts Council will host three workshops this spring for area residents."We are excited to bring these workshops led by professionals in their respective fields to the community," said Sarah Serio, president of Neosho Arts Council.
The first workshop in the series, "Smartphone Filmmaking," is being led by Plotline Films, a non-profit film education program out of Springfield, MO. This intensive workshop will focus on taking professional level films while using only a smartphone. Participants will also get to expand their film editing skills. While this workshop will be presented for adults area high schoolers are welcome to sign up.
For area youth interested in theatre, professional actor and theatre educator NaTasha O'Brien-Davies will be presenting two workshops, one for ages 7-12 and one for ages 13-18, on how to audition for a play. Each session is designed specifically for the target age group and will cover how to prepare for an audition, creating a resume, and how to audition for different types of plays.
"This workshop will engage young actors and prepare them for the experience of auditioning," Serio said. "So many area youth don't know how the process works and we want to get them the tools they need to feel confident to audition for area theatre."
Finally, professional photographer Julie Stephens will present "Lens Life: The Basics of Photography" for ages 8 to 14. Students will come away with a new understanding of basic camera controls, ready to “write with light” and make their own creations.
"Learning how to use a camera or even your phone's camera on a setting other than auto will result in more expressive and creative photography and that is a great skill to learn early," Serio said. Students will learn with hands-on illustrations, visual aids and activities. They do not need to bring a camera.
