Cause, origin on house fire in area of Richmond Road and Sheridan Road remain under investigation

(From the Joplin Fire Department)

At 4:11pm, on Wednesday, March 23rd, Joplin Fire units, Metro Emergency Transport System, and Joplin Police Department responded to the area of Richmond Rd and Sheridan Rd for a residential structure fire.

The Joplin 911 center advised while we were responding that multiple 911 calls were being received reporting the fire.

On arrival, fire units found a two story residential structure with heavy fire involvement to the garage rapidly extending into the second floor and attic space of the home. The occupant of the home was located outside and had suffered injuries as a result of the fire. METS paramedics on scene treated the occupant and transported him to a local hospital.

An attack on the fire was made but personnel were forced to go defensive when the roof of the structure began collapsing.

The fire was brought under control approximately 30 min after arrival. Six Joplin Fire units and 21 personnel responded to the incident, there were no injuries to firefighters.

The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation by the Joplin Fire Marshal.
