(From Missouri State Parks)Have you experienced a prairie as night falls? If not, here is your chance to find out what happens out there as the sun goes down. Take a guided evening stroll on the prairie Saturday, July 15, beginning at 8:30 p.m.
You will get a greater appreciation for the prairie as day fades into night. Think nothing is going on? Think again! Some plants flower only at night and many animals are more active when it is cooler. Participants will take about a 1-mile hike across the prairie. Come on out and see what can discovered.
Participants should meet at the park’s Regal Tallgrass Prairie Nature Center. Please bring a flashlight and wear sturdy shoes, long pants and insect repellent.
Due to the unique and rare diversity of life preserved at Prairie State Park, pets are not allowed on park trails, except for Path of the Earth People and Path of the Sky People. Bison graze freely in the park, and this regulation protects both you and your pet. You are welcome to bring your pet to the park’s campground and picnic area, but must follow Missouri State Parks' pet rules. This applies to all types of pets except service animals assisting people with disabilities.
Prairie State Park is located at 128 NW 150th Lane in Mindenmines. For more information, call
