$1.5 million grant funds LED wall and green screen studio for KGCS

(From KGCS)

A $1.5 million grant is bringing new equipment and studio renovations that will change the way Missouri Southern State University students learn about video production. The grant funded an LED Wall that will be used for 3D virtual production projects as well as a green screen studio that is the new set for the Newsmakers program.

The MOExcels grant was awarded for a collaborative education proposal. The core concept is the overlap of Computer Science, Art and Communication in the use of computer-generated assets for VR, Film/ Commercial/Broadcast Production and Digital Interaction.

Frank Pishkur and Elmira Bagherzadeh from the Art Department, discuss the 3D design, graphic design and animation perspective while Brian Mehrens in Communications shares how the technology is utilized in programs like the Mandalorian. He’ll also discuss use by the community for future commercial production. A video feature includes a demonstration of how the LED Wall functions and a time-lapse video shows construction of the green screen studio.

The show is airing nightly at 5 and 9 p.m. the week of July 23 on KGCS-TV and will be broadcast at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, July 29, on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel – KGCS Missouri Southern.

KCGS programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Suddenlink Communications. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communications at Missouri Southern State University.
