Auditions for Promises, Promises, a book by Neil Simon based on the screenplay The Apartment by Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond, will be held Monday and Tuesday, March 11 and 12, 6:30 p.m., at Joplin Little Theatre, 3009 West First Street in Joplin. Music is by Burt Bacharach with lyrics by Hal David and produced for the Broadway stage by David Merrick.
The director is looking for the following: seven men ages 20 to 60 and six women ages 20 to 45, with an expandable ensemble cast of both men and women ages 18 to 60. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script, a vocal portion of "I Say a Little Prayer for You" and a moderate dance portion. Please wear comfortable shoes.
Everyone auditioning will sing and dance.
An ambitious accountant for the New York insurance company, named Chuck Baxter, climbs the ladder by allowing the firm's executives to use his midtown apartment for love affairs. Trouble occurs when Chuck discovers that the object of his own love, Fran Kubelik, is having rendezvous at his place with Chuck's manager, J.D. Sheldrake. There are mild adult themes in this musical.
Performance dates are set for Wednesday, May 15 through Saturday, May 18, 7:30 p.m. nightly and Sunday, May 19, 2:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $18 for adults and $15 for senior citizens/students.
