(From the City of Joplin)On Monday, August 5, traffic on Connecticut Avenue between 32nd Street and the I-44 Bridge will be shifted to the newly constructed pavement on the east side of the roadway. This switch is occurring to begin work on the west side of Connecticut Avenue.
During the shift, side streets will be closed for periods of time to facilitate the switching of lanes and to build ramps to the new asphalt. Drivers in the area will encounter closed access to side streets, flagmen directing traffic, and other deviations from normal conditions.
Drivers should expect delays and, if possible, are strongly encouraged to seek other routes on Monday while the switches are being made. Once the lane shifts are fully set up and traffic is moved to the east side, side streets will be accessible from Connecticut Avenue. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained at all times.
Currently, only the asphalt base course has been placed in the new lanes. After the west side of the roadway is completed, a final asphalt surfacing course will be added to the entire roadway.
The City appreciates your patience.
