(From KGCS)Children learn in different ways and at different times. That is the heart of the philosophy of Montessori Education and the focus of next week’s Newsmakers program. Leah Gurley, a former Joplin school teacher, has opened a new school in Joplin called Harmony Montessori Academy. The school utilizes the Montessori method which encourages children to learn at their own pace.
There are more than seven thousand Montessori schools worldwide based on the educational strategies of Maria Montessori. Those teach children to take ownership of their learning while tapping into a child’s unique curiosity. A Harmony instructor demonstrates a lesson with a child during the show.
Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. the week of December 1 on KGCS-TV and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, December 6 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS - Missouri Southern State University.
KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Optimum Internet in Carthage. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
