A Fairview man was killed and a Webb City man injured in a two-vehicle collision 7 a.m. Tuesday on MO 86 two miles west of Fairview.
The Highway Patrol report indicates 2012 Jeep Wrangler driven by Lonnie Gray, 57, Fairview, was attempting to pass and struck a 2010 Toyota Prius driven by a 44-year-old Webb City man. (Gray was identified by the Newton County Coroner's office. The Highway Patrol no longer releases names in accident reports.)
The Gray vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and overturned, ejecting the driver.
The Webb City man's vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway.
Newton County Deputy Coroner Jerry Deems pronounced Gray dead at the scene. The Webb City man was treated for serious injuries at Mercy Joplin.
The fatality was the third this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
