St. Louis Cardinals interviews on tap for Newsmakers program

(From KGCS)

Ever wonder how it feels for a player to start in the big leagues? We find out in this week’s Newsmakers as student interviews talk one-on-one with members of the

St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals Caravan stop in Joplin on January 18 provided the opportunity for Missouri Southern State University students and KGCS staff to get up close and personal with Cardinal pitchers Matthew Liberatore, Andre Pallante, Riley O’Brien and outfielder Matt Koperniak. Find out how O’Brien feels about being in the big leagues with his childhood best friend.

We also chat with Golden Glove winner Bengie Molina who talks about his career, Cardinals alum Kyle McClellan on his debut day on the mound, and KMOX sports announcer Tom Ackerman about his 25-year career with the Cardinals. Cardinals fans who attended the free caravan event share about their experience and viewers get a glimpse of the autograph session.

Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. the week of January 26 on KGCS-TV and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, February 1 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS - Missouri Southern State University.

KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Optimum Internet in Carthage. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
