(From the Joplin Police Department)On Thursday, January 30th, 2025, the Joplin Emergency Communications Center began receiving 911 calls about a disturbance with a weapon at 2822 E Markwardt Street in Joplin.
In addition to the calls about the disturbance, some callers reported hearing at least two gunshots and possibly one coming from inside the residence.
When officers arrived, they contacted an adult male walking out of the residence who appeared to be suffering injuries. That adult male reported that he had been assaulted by another male at that location and confirmed that a firearm had been involved in the altercation.
Additional information was obtained that the suspect and possibly three other people were still inside the residence. The male subject that was initially contacted was transported to a local hospital with non-life threating injuries and officers on scene attempted to make contact with anyone inside the residence.
After numerous attempts were made to contact the remaining people inside the residence, Joplin SWAT responded due to the reports of gunshots and the nature of the incident.
Detectives with the Joplin Police Department obtained a search warrant for the residence. Following the execution of the search warrant, no persons were located inside the residence. At this time, the Joplin Police Department does not believe there is a threat to the public and this was an isolated event.
