Joplin bicyclist struck by car, killed west of Joplin

A Joplin man was killed in a car-bicycle collision 9:54 p.m. Saturday on Route 66, a mile and a half west of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2010 Honda Accord driven by a 20-year-old Galena, Kansas woman struck a westbound bicycle. The bicyclist, David Althaus, 63, Joplin, was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Deputy Coroner Scott Keatts.

The fatality was the 75th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
